Lebanese chicks and stereotypes

Here's a very cute/funny song by Lebanese rappers Aks'ser, depicting Lebanese Princesses at their worst.

Lyrics are in arabic and I understand 80% of them.. so WHO of our fabulous female contributors will volunteer for translation? :-)

Movie Review: Zozo

Last night, I watched Zozo, a movie written and directed by Josef Fares. The movie is about a 10 year old kid living in Beirut in 1987. His grandparents moved to Sweden and him and his family were getting their papers ready to move there since warfare in the streets was accelerating. The day their papers got finalized and they were packing to leave, Zozo left the house to buy water and during that time a shell explodes in his home killing his family. Zozo walks to the aiport on his own and moves to Sweden. In Sweden, Zozo has a difficult time fitting in with the people around him and with his eccentric grandfather.

I personally liked the movie. It had me clutching to my pillow at times and at times it had me close to tears. I was disappointed with the ending. I thought it was too abrupt. Maybe I just got attached to Zozo and wanted to make sure he lives a happy life. The cinematography of the movie was beautiful and I believe Joseph Fares did an excellent job directing. Imad Kreidi, the kid who played the role of Zozo is a fantastic young actor and so is Elias Gergi, Zozo’s grandfather. His character was adorable and hilarious. I believe this is a must see movie. A movie I would not forget.

Don't You Just Love Those Forwards?

Top Ten Reasons Why God Created Eve:

10. God was worried that Adam would frequently become lost in the garden because he would not ask for directions.

9. God knew that one day Adam would require someone to locate and hand him the remote.

8. God knew Adam would never go out and buy himself a new fig leaf when his wore out and would therefore need Eve to buy one for him.

7. God knew Adam would never be able to make a doctor's dentist's or haircut appointment by himself.

6. God knew Adam would never remember which night to put the garbage on the curb.

5. God knew if the world was to be populated, men would never be able to handle the pain and discomfort of childbearing.

4. As the Keeper of the Garden, Adam would never remember where he left his tools.

3. Apparently, Adam needed someone to blame his troubles on when God caught him hiding in the garden.

2. As the Bible says, "It is not good for man to be alone."

And, finally, the Number 1 reason why God created Eve....

1. When God finished the creation of Adam, He stepped back, scratched his head, and said, "I can do better than that."

Lack of Productivity

After weeks of bottoming, then hitting rock bottom, and analzying with different friends on why I have been bottoming, I think I may have reached a conclusion: Lack of productivity. I haven't felt productive recently, work-wise or social wise. When I am not productive I basically feel useless, and/or that my life is useless and that I am rotting! Well... at least I feel that I am rotting. I get my excitement and my adrenalin from being productive.

So, now that I think I may have found the reason to my "bottoming" I have to solve it to "upper" up again. There are many ways to do so, such as finding a productive hobby, or changing my entire life. I know hobby sounds easier but life-change sounds more intriguing.
I got a job offer from Lebanon, a good position, a decent salary and package. I always said that if I found a good offer in Lebanon I would move back. Now, I don't know if I want to. Yet, I would like to shop for more offers in Lebanon.

Moving back to Lebanon would be a major challenge...(continue reading)

Movie Review: Memoires of A Geisha

I finally got to watch Memoires of a Geisha last night. The movie, just like the book is interesting. The actual topic is interesting, and learning all about Geishas and how they become Geishas is also interesting. The movie is alright to watch. I didn't find it fascinating but I can say I watched it from start until end without getting bored. I know a lot of you love this movie and recommend everyone to watch it... you know who you are... I recommend people to watch it but I can't go on and on talking about what a great movie it is.

Movie Review: Nineteen Eighty-Four

I thought I can start by posting movie reviews that I already post on my blog.

I read Georges Orwell’s book 1984 around 5 years back. My little brother, Patrick recommended the book to me. I really liked the book, although once again, some of you might find it slow and disturbing but I do believe that’s how it should have been read so that you completely feel the totalitarian society.

Recently, going through Mark’s list of movies on the home server, I found the movie. I had to watch it. I downloaded it a few days ago but I wanted to watch it when I relaxed and was able to concentrate at it since I was really looking forward to it.

I must say it is extremely rare to find a movie done well from a book or a comic. They usually disappoint me. Therefore, I totally am impressed with the movie 1948. The director, Michael Radford, did a brilliant job depicting the book. The torture scenes were gruesome and the final rat torture scene was spine-chilling.

I am glad I watched this movie.

Get up, Stand up

"If particular care and attention are not paid to the ladies, we are determined to foment a rebellion, and will not hold ourselves bound by any laws in which we have no voice or representation."

–Abigail Adams
